8 Qualities to look for in a real estate agent

When finding the right agents to look after your investment property or to sell your property, sometimes there can be a large amount of information from agents that might be confusing or overwhelming. We have narrowed down the criteria that we think is important to look for in any real estate agent.

  1. Communication – How well is the agent communicating to their sellers and buyers? You want someone who will keep you in the loop every step of the way.
  2. Proactive -Is the agent calling potential buyers and existing customers to sell your property?  The key element of being proactive is keeping the client well informed.
  3. Listening – The customer should be doing most of the talking and making sure that the agent understands your needs and requests.  Agents will often tell you to wary of an agent who talks too much.
  4. Client Motivated – Is the agent putting the sellers first? This is important to understand whether the agent will be working for the buyer or the seller.
  5. Expert in the area – How well does the agent know the area? Be sure to ask prospective agents questions about the local area.  You will be able to distinguish those who can sell the local lifestyle and those who can’t
  6. Knowing the sellers timeframe – Your agent should know the timeframe of the seller.  Is it an urgent sale, or does the seller want advice about when to sell?
  7. Motivation of the sellers  – Is the agent asking the right questions about your motivations for selling? Is the seller looking at buying again? Are they looking for an investment? Are they look to live in the home and rebuild?
  8. Reviews, Research, Ratings – Is your agent willing to use their past clients as references? This can allow the sellers to have a good understanding of who they are working with before they choose the right person.
